The Principal Investigator (MD/DO) — Cardiology Clinical Trials role is hybrid, with onsite presence in McAllen, TX approximately one to four times per month for key visits, or more depending on study needs, and remote oversight of approximately three to five hours per week. Compensation is $100–$250 per hour; the posting describes a part-time 1099 independent-contractor opportunity. Hawthorne Health’s community-based research model aims to make clinical trials more accessible and convenient for patients. The physician leads cardiology and metabolic trials at community-based research sites, overseeing participant care, study conduct, staff, and regulatory compliance. The role supports reliable, ethical research and helps advance trials through accurate data, sound medical decisions, and coordination with sponsors and research partners.

What you'll do

• Oversee clinical trials and ensure adherence to protocols, GCP, ICH guidelines, and applicable regulations
• lead and supervise research staff
• delegate duties and ensure training and oversight
• remotely review patient assessments and eligibility
• interpret laboratory results, ECGs, and diagnostic tests
• make medical decisions about participant care, adverse events, and protocol deviations
• ensure complete study data
• communicate with sponsors, CROs, IRBs, and regulators
• manage investigational products with the onsite team
• participate in site initiation, monitoring, audits, and inspections.
