Horizontal Directional Drill Operator

Job overview

The Horizontal Directional Drill Operator role is based in the Salt Lake City, UT area, with regular travel to project sites throughout Utah and possible overnight travel. Compensation is $35–$45 per hour based on experience. The operator supports SNAM Communications’ underground telecommunications infrastructure projects. The operator executes directional bores and conduit pullbacks while coordinating with the Locator and field crew. The role contributes to safe, productive installation by adapting drilling operations to ground conditions, caring for equipment, and verifying utility exposure before drilling proceeds.

What you'll do

• Operate Vermeer horizontal directional drilling equipment
• perform pilot drilling, reaming, and conduit or product pullback
• set up and stabilize the drill
• adjust drilling settings, fluids, and tooling for soil conditions
• coordinate with the Locator on bore trajectory
• respond to changing subsurface and equipment conditions
• inspect and maintain equipment
• troubleshoot basic mechanical issues
• transport equipment and trailers as required
• follow safety and environmental requirements
• travel to project sites throughout Utah.

Why this role

Requires at least two years of hands-on HDD operating experience and a valid CDL. Regular project travel is required; overnight travel may be necessary. Vermeer equipment experience is preferred.
