The Firmware Engineer — Embedded Systems role is an onsite, full-time position in Boulder, CO; the salary is $90,000–$110,000 per year. BI develops electronic monitoring solutions used by more than 1,000 agencies nationwide. The engineer develops and maintains embedded software and hardware-interface components for company products, troubleshoots field and test-environment issues, and supports application programmers and lower-level developers. The work helps maintain product performance and address field issues and component obsolescence.

What you'll do

• Design, develop, and document embedded software systems and related hardware interfaces
• debug hardware and software issues
• work with low-level microcontroller components
• analyze functional issues and performance in test environments
• update existing firmware for field issues or part obsolescence
• analyze field data to troubleshoot firmware
• prepare product training for support personnel
• develop functional specifications
• advise department members and support application programmers and lower-level developers.

Why this role

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, at least three years of engineering and programming experience, and three years of C and Python or C# programming. Experience with bare-metal programming, cooperative operating systems, RTOS, interface protocols, and lab troubleshooting is sought.
