The Access Center Nurse role is onsite in Chicago, IL, and compensation is not specified. The schedule is Monday–Friday in four-hour shifts; the access center phone lines are covered from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Friday when the clinic is open. La Rabida Children's Hospital provides specialized, family-centered care for children with complex medical conditions, disabilities, and chronic illness. The registered nurse provides telephone-based medical education and support, assesses callers' needs, and coordinates clinical intake and documentation. The role helps families reach appropriate care while supporting outpatient teams with triage, prescription requests, authorizations, and continuity of care.

What you'll do

• Screen and coordinate intake for new outpatient patients
• collect demographic and visit information
• facilitate insurance verification, authorization, provider selection, and appointment scheduling
• coordinate prescription refills, orders, renewals, prior authorizations, and requested forms
• triage calls and direct families to appropriate services
• document calls in the telephone log and electronic medical record
• support outpatient quality improvement and team collaboration.

Why this role

Requires graduation from an accredited nursing school with at least a bachelor's degree and an Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license. Pediatric experience is highly desirable; BLS and PALS certifications are required, with specified timelines for new hires to obtain RQI certifications.
