The Physician Assistant – Inpatient Palliative Medicine role is onsite in Palo Alto, CA, with compensation of $91.68–$121.48 per hour. The role supports Stanford Health Care’s interdisciplinary inpatient palliative care team, which provides symptom management, psychosocial support, and advance care planning for patients and families facing serious illness. The Physician Assistant evaluates and treats patients, manages symptoms, and helps guide discussions that shape care plans around patient goals. By consulting across adult hospital settings and participating in daily interprofessional rounds, the role supports coordinated, patient- and family-centered care. The service operates seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; the position requires at least one weekend per month and one holiday per year, with no on-call requirement.

What you'll do

• Evaluate and treat patients with acute and chronic concerns
• obtain histories and perform physical examinations
• request and evaluate diagnostic studies
• order or furnish medications under physician supervision and applicable protocols
• order and collect specimens and request therapies and services
• perform designated procedures after competency is demonstrated
• obtain informed consent as indicated
• coordinate admissions, discharges, and care
• provide patient teaching and counseling
• participate in quality improvement
• collaborate with the palliative care team and primary healthcare teams.
