Job overview

The Community Access Technician role is onsite at low-threshold shelters and other Community Access locations in Boston, MA. Compensation is $31.11 per hour. Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program works to provide equitable, dignified access to health care for people and families experiencing homelessness in greater Boston. The technician provides low-threshold medical access and supports safe, compassionate sedation monitoring. The role contributes to reducing overdose deaths and connecting patients with addiction treatment and primary care through clinical assessment, monitoring, emergency response, risk-reduction counseling, and care coordination.

What you'll do

  • Provide direct clinical care under established policies and procedures
  • respond first to medical emergencies at assigned sites
  • provide supportive, nonjudgmental support for patients with substance use disorder
  • provide basic wound care and skin assessment
  • assess and document sedation and intervene as appropriate
  • coordinate with clinical supports
  • provide risk-reduction counseling and connect patients to treatment programs
  • maintain accurate treatment records and flow sheets
  • communicate with shelter staff and supervisors
  • collaborate with shelter clinic teams.
