The Optical Navigation Engineer, Flight Dynamics role may be based onsite in Houston, TX; Littleton, CO; Glen Burnie, MD; or Phoenix, AZ, or remote from AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, MD, OH, TX, VA, WA, or DC. The role supports the Flight Dynamics - Interplanetary team at KinetX Aerospace, a subsidiary of Intuitive Machines, whose work includes space navigation and mission operations for lunar and deep-space missions. The engineer develops and tests optical navigation systems, software, and analyses that support spacecraft missions. The work contributes to mission planning and operations by assessing navigation performance, coordinating with spacecraft and mission partners, verifying system results, and documenting technical findings.

What you'll do

• Develop and test ground-based and onboard optical navigation systems and flight software, including functional testing and flight validation
• use modeling and simulation to assess performance, reliability, and safety
• support commercial lunar programs and interplanetary missions
• perform operational analyses, camera/system calibration, observation planning, image processing, and planetary shape and terrain modeling
• coordinate with mission partners and spacecraft subsystem engineers
• develop maintainable analysis and operations software
• verify measurement accuracy and system performance
• prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations
• and contribute to project planning, estimates, and schedules. Travel for team meetings and critical operations support is required as needed
• U.S. citizenship is required.
