The Electrical Engineer — Protection & Controls/Physical, Substations role is onsite in Detroit, MI, with a pay range of $90,000–$150,000 per year. Atwell’s Power & Energy team designs and executes power generation and delivery systems, including renewable energy and high-voltage infrastructure. The engineer leads design tasks and develops technical packages for high-voltage systems, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting project delivery. The work contributes to utility-scale renewable energy, substations, transmission, and distribution projects.

What you'll do

  • Design high-voltage systems, substations, transmission and distribution, and utility-scale renewable projects
  • lead engineering tasks from kickoff through design package completion
  • collaborate with civil, structural, SCADA, and protection and control engineers
  • prepare diagrams, studies, specifications, reports, bills of materials, proposals, and client deliverables
  • ensure designs meet applicable industry standards
  • support estimating, proposals, client communication, interdisciplinary reviews, and QA/QC. Occasional travel under 20% is listed for field walkdowns, client meetings, or construction support.
