Fiber Design Technician

Job overview

The Fiber Design Technician role is onsite in Albany, NY. Compensation is $25–$30 per hour. FirstLight provides fiber-optic data, internet, data center, cloud, and voice services to enterprise and carrier customers. The technician develops and maintains outside- and inside-plant fiber designs in the company’s GIS platform, producing construction prints and splice plans and incorporating as-built information. The work supports accurate project documentation and coordination among construction, field operations, and network operations teams.

What you'll do

• Participate in project kickoffs and construction meetings
• design fiber backbone routes to customer specifications
• digitize lines and elements in mapping software
• produce construction prints and splice plans
• update designs using as-built construction data
• coordinate with construction engineers, NOC, and field operations
• identify fiber-constrained segments
• support outage responses as part of an on-call rotation
• train users on procedures and systems
• document continuous improvement and operating procedures.
