Tool and Die Maker

Job overview

The Tool and Die Maker role is onsite in Bluffton, IN, with a Monday–Thursday schedule from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Compensation is $27–$29 per hour. The position is in the Tooling department and handles repair activities assigned by the Tooling Manager or Tool Room Shift Leader. The maker lays out, designs, builds, repairs, and troubleshoots dies and fixtures, operates tool-room equipment, and supports die tryout and PPAP approval. The role also trains apprentices and lower-classification toolmakers and maintains safe, orderly work areas and required documentation.

What you'll do

• Inventory punches and expendables
• lay out dies, fixtures, and parts
• design and build fixtures and small dies
• read part prints
• teach toolmakers and train apprentices
• try out dies and assist with PPAP approval
• TIG weld trim steels and heat-treat tool steels as needed
• estimate and quote hours and costs
• operate tool-room equipment
• troubleshoot sheet-metal dies
• complete job cards, maintenance logs, and requisitions
• move dies using cranes and lift trucks
• follow safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
