Job overview

The 2026–2027 New Graduate Project Engineer role is onsite in Washington, DC. Starting pay is more than $36 per hour. Smoot Construction’s project engineering work supports construction delivery through design coordination, quality control, and document management. The engineer manages project information and helps resolve design and construction conflicts so field work can proceed in line with project requirements and schedules. The role supports project leadership through document control, submittal tracking, coordination, and technical input on construction methods and constructability.

What you'll do

• Review and resolve design and construction problems with the design team, project leadership, clients, and contractors
• ensure engineering activities meet company and contract requirements and support the construction schedule
• provide technical support on design interpretation, construction methods, conflicts, and constructability
• administer document control and keep design documents current with site operations
• track submittals and project logs
• attend design and coordination meetings
• assist with reports and scopes of work for subcontracts and vendor purchase orders.
