Job overview

The Preschool Special Education Mentor Teacher role is onsite in New York, NY, supporting the William O’Connor: Bay Ridge and Staten Island Children’s Program at both schools. Compensation is $80,000–$90,000 per year. ADAPT Community Network provides services to people with developmental disabilities and supports children through its education programs. The mentor teacher leads and supports instruction, individualized education planning, and professional development for classroom staff, helping improve student outcomes through inclusive, developmentally appropriate education and interdisciplinary collaboration.

What you'll do

  • Plan and adapt lessons based on developmental levels and IEPs
  • set instructional goals and evaluate progress
  • participate in evaluations, intake assessments, and transition planning
  • prepare educational reports and maintain student records
  • mentor and coach teachers and assistants
  • conduct observations and provide feedback
  • lead professional development
  • coordinate interdisciplinary teams and family communication
  • support classroom operations and student transitions and personal care as needed.
