Principal Platform Engineer

Job overview

The Principal Platform Engineer role is hybrid, with at least three days per week in the Boulder, CO office. The base salary range is $195,000–$220,000 per year, with an annual bonus and company equity also offered. Atom Computing builds quantum computers using optically trapped neutral atoms. This role builds and operates the infrastructure supporting quantum computing and research workflows. It works across lab and cloud environments with software, control systems, and physics teams to deliver reliable, secure, scalable systems and improve operational performance.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and maintain classical compute infrastructure for quantum control systems
• collaborate with software engineers, control systems engineers, and physicists on workload requirements
• own infrastructure-as-code, deployment automation, and observability across on-premises and cloud environments
• establish security, access-control, and compliance standards
• participate in the on-call rotation and lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements
• evaluate infrastructure tools and build-versus-buy options.
