The Data Reporter – AI & Storytelling role is onsite in Iselin, NJ. The base pay is $60,000–$70,000 annually. The reporter joins NJ.com’s newsroom, working with reporters, multimedia journalists, social specialists, and editors to produce journalism for New Jersey readers. The role finds and verifies stories in public records and data, then presents them through reporting, visualizations, and interactive tools readers can use. AI-assisted workflows help accelerate data preparation and prototyping, while human review and journalistic standards ensure accuracy and responsible disclosure.

What you'll do

• Produce multiple data stories weekly, including quick-turn breaking-news pieces. Scrape, clean, join, and structure public records and datasets using AI-assisted workflows. Create mobile-first visualizations and interactive pages such as searchable tables, maps, lookup tools, trackers, and dashboards. Use AI coding tools to prototype and iterate
• extend reporting through newsletters, alerts, social video, and other formats
• interview sources
• verify AI-assisted work and provide standard disclosures
• and collaborate across the newsroom.
