What you'll do

• Initiates, monitors and maintains mechanically ventilated patients, assists with placement of artificial airways, performs and documents patient assessment, verifies and documents ventilator function and patient status, assists with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients, assists at deliveries, administers and monitors respiratory care treatments, evaluates patient within 2 hours of notification of respiratory therapy orders, instructs patient and family members, assures assigned areas are stocked, responds promptly to treatment needs in Emergency Department, responds immediately to emergency codes, correctly manages airway and external compressions, responds immediately to emergent patient situations, promptly sets up oxygen new starts, follows established hospital and departmental infection control policies, records pertinent information in patient’s medical record, accurately documents all respiratory care interventions, documents patient and family education, maintains up-to-date departmental records, enters charges per shift, provides oncoming shift with current and accurate patient report, performs noninvasive and invasive diagnostic tests and monitoring, performs arterial blood gas sampling and analyses, performs pulmonary function tests, performs bedside spirometry, performs peak flow, inspiratory and expiratory force, vital capacity measurements, monitors pulse oximetry, transcutaneous C02 and end-tidal C0P2 levels, performs EKGs, performs cleaning, preventive maintenance and calibration of RC equipment, cleans, assembles, verifies function of ventilators, cleans, calibrates and maintains PFT equipment, performs arterial blood gas instrumentation calibration and maintenance, calibrates and troubleshoots TCM and oxygen analyzers, functions as respiratory care protocol assessor, assesses patient per physician-approved criteria, writes correct therapy orders, delivers initial therapies, reassesses patient, conveys all RCP therapies to appropriate staff members.
