Substance Abuse Counselor

The Substance Abuse Counselor role is onsite at Old Colony Correctional Center and Massachusetts Treatment Center in Bridgewater, MA. Compensation is $65,000–$70,000 per year. VitalCore Health Strategies provides correctional health care as part of a multidisciplinary team. The counselor delivers treatment to justice-involved individuals with substance-use concerns, coordinating with behavioral health, medical, correctional, and community professionals to support care and discharge planning.

What you'll do

• Provide crisis stabilization, intakes, ongoing evaluations, and consultation
• assess functioning, strengths, and needs related to substance-use diagnoses
• orient individuals to treatment
• deliver evidence-based curricula and individual or group interventions
• develop treatment and discharge plans with qualified behavioral health professionals
• conduct risk assessments
• coordinate care and aftercare
• document records and reports
• educate individuals about substance use
• use brief clinical interventions including CBT and Motivational Interviewing.

Why this role
