Project Accountant

Job overview

The Project Accountant role is onsite in Chicago, IL, with work in the office five days a week. The salary range is $80,000–$90,000 per year. The role supports the financial management and administration of engineering and architectural projects. By monitoring budgets, managing billing and project records, and reporting financial performance, the accountant helps project teams maintain accurate, compliant, and financially sound work throughout each project lifecycle.

What you'll do

• Monitor project performance against budgets, forecasts, and financial targets
• maintain project records in the ERP system from initiation through closeout
• communicate financial status, risks, trends, and variances to management
• collaborate with project managers on burn rates and project progress
• prepare client invoices and support contract administration
• coordinate review and payment of subconsultant invoices
• prepare general ledger entries and documentation
• develop executive-level financial and project performance reports
• manage project variances and work-in-progress reporting
• assist with month-end and year-end close
• ensure compliance with company policies, contracts, and accounting standards.
