Preconstruction Estimator

The Preconstruction Estimator role is onsite in San Mateo, CA, with an annual salary of $125,000–$170,000. The role supports an established Northern California general contractor’s commercial, multifamily, institutional, and mixed-use projects. This position develops project estimates and budgets from early preconstruction through bid development and transition to operations. It coordinates with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and internal project teams to assess project costs and risks, develop bid scopes, evaluate proposals, and support value engineering and buyout.

What you'll do

• Prepare conceptual and hard-bid estimates
• perform quantity takeoffs and develop budgets
• review plans and specifications for completeness, risk, and constructability
• develop bid scopes and trade packages
• solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor proposals
• lead pre-bid meetings
• present budgets and value-engineering recommendations
• participate in design and preconstruction meetings
• support subcontractor selection, buyout, and contract preparation
• coordinate constructability reviews
• develop initial schedules and site logistics plans with Operations
• track budgets, cost changes, and milestones
• mentor junior estimating and project staff as needed.
