The Structural Mechanical Engineer role is onsite at BWXT’s Advanced Technologies Office in Lynchburg, VA; compensation is not specified. BWXT’s Advanced Technologies group researches, designs, and develops nuclear reactors, nuclear propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems. The engineer designs and evaluates structural systems for facility infrastructure and equipment to ensure safety, stability, and code compliance. The work supports production and facility upgrades, new installations, and engineering procurement through calculations, drawings, and coordination with other disciplines.

What you'll do

• Design structural systems for facilities and equipment
• evaluate foundations, structural components, and below-the-hook lifting
• support upgrades and installations
• coordinate mechanical and electrical interfaces
• create CAD models and drawings
• develop calculations and specifications
• support procurement
• analyze concrete, steel, aluminum, natural-phenomena loads, and soil mechanics.
