The Kitchen Helper, Alpha Square role is onsite in San Diego, CA, with compensation of $20–$22 per hour. Alpha Project for the Homeless’s Alpha Square Kitchen prepares nutritious meals for program participants and community members. The schedule is Thursday through Monday, 6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m., with Sunday hours of 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. The kitchen helper supports meal production and kitchen operations by preparing food, processing donations, maintaining inventory and storage, and following sanitation and food-safety procedures. The role helps ensure meals are prepared and packed on time while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

What you'll do

• Receive, inspect, document, and sort food donations
• organize, restock, rotate, and label pantry, refrigerator, and freezer items
• assist with inventory
• prepare salads, sides, and main entrées
• support meal packing for shelters
• operate the dish machine and three-compartment sink
• perform daily and deep cleaning
• complete temperature and waste logs
• conduct walkthroughs and check storage.
