Out Island Mate (BEC) — Summer 2027

The Out Island Mate (BEC) role is onsite in Summerland Key, Florida, for the Summer 2027 season. Pay is $445 per week. BSA Sea Base operates high-adventure programs that include water-based activities, camping, and coral restoration across multiple locations. Mates lead crews through seven-day Out Island Adventures, including five days and four nights on primitive Big Munson Island. They facilitate activities, serve as boat first mates, maintain safety, mediate conflict, motivate participants, and help develop crew leadership skills.

What you'll do

• Lead Out Island Adventure crews throughout seven-day trips
• facilitate kayaking, fishing, snorkeling, and canoeing
• serve as first mate aboard a 45-foot Corinthian and a 28-foot center console
• maintain safety standards
• mediate conflict
• motivate participants
• develop crew leadership skills
• work collaboratively with other mates.
