The Construction Engineering Technician – Public Works role is onsite in Hutchinson, KS, with compensation of $22.10–$33.18 per hour. The position supports the City of Hutchinson’s Public Works/Engineering team and projects that help maintain the community. The technician inspects public and privately funded improvement projects, monitors public safety, and performs field engineering and survey work. The role helps ensure construction follows plans, specifications, and applicable standards while supporting project documentation and issue resolution.

What you'll do

• Inspect street improvements, bridges, storm drains, utility systems, parks, grading, and public and private street systems
• interpret construction plans and specifications
• inspect pipe laying and subgrade/base grade
• survey city projects
• review detour, haul-route, and erosion-control plans
• maintain logs, records, and as-built drawings
• recommend solutions to construction issues
• arrange construction surveys and materials testing
• conduct tests on new facilities
• assist with technical reports.

Why this role

Requires a high school diploma or GED, five or more years of public works and/or construction experience, and a valid Kansas driver’s license. KDOT certifications are desirable, and KDOT Basic Inspection certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
