The Software Engineer — Special Projects role is onsite in Washington, DC, with compensation ranges listed by level: $190,000–$290,000 for Senior Staff and $220,000–$330,000 for Principal. Shield AI develops intelligent systems intended to protect service members and civilians; the Special Projects team supports the Hivemind software ecosystem. The engineer designs and prototypes generative AI experiences and improves user experience across Hivemind products. The role contributes to strategic technology development through user research, product collaboration, and rapid delivery of solutions and reference implementations.

What you'll do

• Design and prototype generative AI experiences for autonomy development
• work with the Office of the CTO to shape Hivemind product vision and documentation
• lead user experience design for Hivemind Generative AI
• collaborate with Hivemind Commander and Design technical leads
• conduct user research
• and assess competing products and present findings to engineering and product leadership.
