Construction Superintendent

Job overview

The Construction Superintendent reports to jobsites in Ames, Iowa, and other project locations; compensation is not specified. Story Construction is a general contractor, construction manager, and design-builder serving commercial and industrial markets in central Iowa, and is 100% employee-owned. The superintendent oversees onsite construction activities to help complete projects on schedule, within budget, and to quality and safety standards. Through planning, subcontractor coordination, field-team development, and day-to-day problem solving, the role supports effective project execution and a positive jobsite environment.

What you'll do

• Lead foremen and crews through mentoring, training, coaching, and performance reviews
• manage daily onsite project activity
• coordinate logistical support
• understand plans, specifications, and subcontractor work
• order materials, tools, and equipment and maintain inventory records
• plan schedules and project execution
• monitor progress, material usage, and costs
• estimate resources, assist with cost projections, anticipate obstacles, and correct unsafe conditions.
