After School Program Teacher Assistant

The After School Program Teacher Assistant role is onsite in Newport, RI, with pay of $19 per hour. The part-time schedule is Monday through Friday, 2:30 p.m.–6:00 p.m. The role supports the Martin Luther King Community Center’s Education Department. The assistant helps create a safe, caring environment and supports students’ academic, social, and developmental activities. The role helps maintain program quality through student engagement, behavior support, communication, and classroom safety.

What you'll do

• Assist with school-age program activities
• support students in academic subjects
• help manage behavior and discipline
• mentor students
• provide observations to the coordinator to help adapt activities
• maintain classroom materials and cleanliness
• support hygiene and safety
• manage group transitions
• report incidents
• communicate professionally with families and staff
• and follow program policies and state regulations.
