Job overview

The AI/Machine Learning Software Engineer III role is hybrid in Virginia Beach, VA, with three days per week onsite and the remainder remote. Pay is $38.46–$45.67 per hour. The short-term position is anticipated to last through approximately the end of December 2026, with possible further work, supporting development of an AI tool for U.S. Navy engineering drawings. The engineer will build an on-premises computer-vision and language-model workflow that compares drawing versions and produces draft reports for engineer review. The work helps the team automate drawing comparison while providing a secure interface for human review and correction.

What you'll do

• Design and integrate a computer-vision pipeline to align and detect differences between engineering drawings
• develop and deploy a locally hosted language model to generate structured draft reports
• build and maintain a secure engineer-facing review interface
• implement ingestion and normalization for PDF, TIFF, CGM, DXF, and JPEG
• ensure deployment on existing on-premises hardware without cloud infrastructure
• maintain technical documentation.
