Medical Director — Behavioral Health and Substance Use Treatment

The Medical Director role is in person in Virginia Beach, VA, with a minimum of eight onsite hours each week and telephone consultation availability during agreed coverage periods. The physician provides medical oversight, guides safe and evidence-based treatment, and collaborates with nurse practitioners and clinical teams. The role contributes to consistent, patient-centered care through clinical consultation, policy and quality work, medication management, and support for continuity of care.

What you'll do

• Provide medical oversight for behavioral health and substance use treatment
• help develop and review medical policies, procedures, protocols, and quality practices
• support Virginia DBHDS and accreditation compliance
• participate in clinical and quality meetings
• collaborate with nurse practitioners under applicable practice agreements
• consult on complex psychiatric presentations and medication decisions
• conduct periodic chart reviews
• provide psychiatric assessment, medication management, and direct care as needed
• guide medication monitoring, including MOUD
• review records and coordinate testing, referrals, and follow-up
• document care
• provide guidance on urgent clinical concerns
• support staff education and patient rights.
