Job overview

The Senior Computational Materials Scientist role is onsite in Devens, MA. Compensation is $152,000–$230,000 per year. The Materials and Processing Department supports design engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing for Commonwealth Fusion Systems’ fusion-energy programs. The scientist develops computational models and workflows to predict material properties in extreme environments, quantify performance relationships, and guide experiments. This work helps reduce uncertainty in materials decisions for SPARC and the planned ARC fusion power plant.

What you'll do

  • Build computational tools, workflows, and methods to predict material properties in extreme environments with uncertainty bounds
  • identify chemical and microstructural features affecting material performance
  • inform experimental design
  • develop material design-curve methodology with design and analysis engineers
  • identify knowledge and experimental capability gaps addressable through simulation
  • benchmark material-property variability
  • collaborate on data workflows
  • support materials standard specifications
  • stay current with modeling techniques.
