Part-Time Police Officer

The Part-Time Police Officer is an onsite position in Carterville, IL, with compensation of $19 per hour. The officer serves John A. Logan College’s Campus Police Department, helping maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, employees, visitors, and community members. The officer protects life and property through patrol, law enforcement, emergency response, investigations, and community-oriented policing. The work also supports campus activities and student success through public safety services, outreach, and positive relationships across the college community.

What you'll do

• Patrol college-owned and adjacent properties
• enforce applicable laws and college policies
• monitor campus safety and respond to suspicious activity and incidents
• respond to emergencies, alarms, accidents, medical incidents, disturbances, and requests for assistance
• coordinate with emergency responders and outside agencies
• investigate incidents, interview involved parties, collect and document evidence, and prepare reports
• provide directions, escorts, event support, traffic management, and parking enforcement
• support events through crowd management and safety monitoring
• assist with crime prevention and campus safety education. Must be available for evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, and emergency call-outs as assigned.

Why this role

Shifts are to be determined and may include days, evenings, nights, and weekends. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, minimum age of 21, valid driver’s license, ability to obtain and maintain an Illinois FOID card, and ILETSB certification or eligibility through an approved waiver or reciprocity process.
