The SQL Server and Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) — Expert role is hybrid in Mechanicsville, VA; compensation is $50 per hour on C2C or $43 per hour on W-2. The role supports a large-scale tolling environment, and candidates must be local to Virginia with prior state or federal client experience. The administrator maintains and improves SQL Server and cloud database availability, performance, and reliability. The work includes database administration, troubleshooting, tuning, upgrades, patching, migrations, high-availability configurations, and operational support in collaboration with engineering and operations teams.

What you'll do

• Administer SQL Server and cloud databases
• maintain uptime, performance, and availability
• diagnose deadlocks, blocking, and performance issues using Extended Events, Query Store, and wait statistics
• install, upgrade, patch, and migrate SQL Server, including SQL Server 2012 to 2019
• tune very large databases of 2 TB or more and optimize indexes
• configure and maintain clustering, mirroring, and high-availability environments
• write, debug, and optimize T-SQL
• support SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS
• work with Azure and cloud-based data platforms
• collaborate with Engineering and Operations on production issues
• participate in help desk and operational support rotations.

Why this role

12-month contract. Requires 6+ years of Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience, 3–4 years upgrading E-ZPass Virginia Tolling environments from SQL Server 2012 to 2019, and experience with high availability, very large databases, and listed database tools. A master’s degree or equivalent experience is required; 1+ year with Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks is required, with a relevant certification potentially substituting.
