The Locomotive Assembler role is onsite in Muncie, IN, paying $19 per hour for first shift, $19 per hour plus a $1 shift differential for second shift, or $19 per hour plus a $2 shift differential for third shift. Sterling Engineering is recruiting for a contract-to-hire position supporting locomotive assembly in a heavy manufacturing environment. The assembler installs and connects electrical and mechanical components in locomotive cab units and underframes. The role supports safe, accurate production by following schematics and work instructions, testing wiring, and meeting quality and production standards.

What you'll do

• Run wiring through cab units and underframes
• measure, cut, strip, and lug wires
• perform continuity testing
• fit, assemble, connect, and install components
• use hand and power tools and electrical testing equipment
• align locomotive components
• assist welders with preparation and grinding
• mask units for painting preparation
• follow digital work instructions
• maintain safety, quality, and production standards.

Why this role

Multiple schedules are available: first shift Monday–Friday 6:00 AM–2:30 PM; second shift Monday–Friday 2:00 PM–10:30 PM; third shift Sunday–Thursday 9:30 PM–6:00 AM. Second- and third-shift hires train on first shift for six weeks.
