Director of Accounting

The Director of Accounting role is hybrid, based in Tucson or Phoenix, AZ, with compensation of $130,000–$160,000 per year. Phoenix-based hires work from the Tucson office at least one day per week, and light travel to school sites, including occasional out-of-state trips, is expected. The role reports to the CFO and leads an accounting team of eight supporting schools and new school launches. The director leads the accounting function while working hands-on with the team to build reliable processes that support accurate, timely work at scale. The role oversees close, general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, grants, systems, and audits, helping school leaders and colleagues use clear financial information and meet reporting requirements.

What you'll do

• Lead and develop the accounting team
• own the month-end close and general ledger
• oversee payroll and accounts payable
• maintain grant ledgers and oversee federal grant reimbursements and drawdowns
• strengthen internal controls
• improve Workday processes and automate routine work
• support accounting setup and audit readiness for new schools
• provide financial statements and analysis to the CFO and Director of FP&A
• lead external audits and manage auditor requests
• ensure timely state and authorizer filings
• partner with FP&A, HR, operations, and other directors.
