Job overview

The Program Advocate - Single Adult Shelter role is onsite in Worcester, MA. Pay is $17 per hour. The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 3:00 PM–11:00 PM, with a 30-minute unpaid meal break and 37.5 hours per week. South Middlesex Opportunity Council provides shelter services and support for clients. The advocate oversees shelter operations during the shift, maintains a safe and secure environment, and responds to client needs and incidents. Through regular rounds, documentation, respectful engagement, and coordination with staff, the role supports continuity of shelter operations and client dignity.

What you'll do

  • Monitor shelter surroundings and respond to issues
  • maintain client and staff safety
  • review shift logs and communicate with staff
  • maintain logs and files
  • report problems and rule infractions
  • report emergencies to supervisors
  • attend meetings and training
  • treat guests with dignity and respect
  • complete rounds every 15 minutes
  • engage clients and address needs
  • maintain confidentiality and follow program, agency, and funder requirements.
