Lead/Charge Registered Nurse (RN) — Emergency Shelter, Hurricane Readiness is an onsite, activation-based role at assigned emergency shelters in North Fort Myers, FL, with other facilities possible when identified in writing. Compensation is described as commensurate with experience. The role supports the Emergency Nursing Services hurricane preparedness, response, and recovery program. The charge nurse anchors a shelter medical station, providing and directing screening, assessment, triage, and basic care while maintaining readiness for medical incidents. The role supervises assigned LPNs and CNAs, coordinates escalation and EMS handoffs, and maintains required clinical and operational documentation during activations.
What you'll do
- Perform medical screening and assessment
- monitor vital signs and health status
- triage and provide basic nursing care within RN scope
- respond to on-site medical incidents and support stabilization and EMS handoff
- administer ordered medications and treatments within scope
- provide health monitoring and patient/caregiver education
- set up, manage, and demobilize the medical station
- manage supplies and inventory
- implement infection-prevention practices
- direct and delegate to LPNs and CNAs
- coordinate with shelter management, EMS, and the Clinical Lead
- maintain encounter records and operational reports
- support the after-action report.
