• establish policies, appetite, and risk tolerance
• monitor loss ratios, retention, rate adequacy, and performance metrics
• oversee compliance
• build and mentor the underwriting team
• contribute to budget and P&L management
• use analytics to guide pricing and portfolio strategy
• improve expense efficiency and productivity.
