Job overview
The Patient Care Technician, Medical-Surgical Cardiology/Telemetry, Days role is onsite in Washington, DC. The pay range is $19.00–$30.40 per hour. The position supports Howard University Hospital’s 4 North Cardiology/Telemetry department, providing patient-centered care in a teaching hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center. Working under licensed healthcare professionals, the technician provides direct care, monitors and reports patient status, responds to monitor alarms, and documents care. These responsibilities support patient comfort and safety and the unit’s coordinated care for patients with cardiac and complex medical conditions.
What you'll do
- Perform clinical tasks within the PCT scope under licensed supervision, including IV insertion and discontinuation, EKGs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, glucose testing, urinary catheter insertion and discontinuation, oxygen equipment monitoring, and pulse oximetry
- assist with activities of daily living and repositioning
- respond to monitor alarms and notify the RN
- observe and report vital signs, intake/output, symptoms, and abnormal values
- conduct purposeful hourly rounding
- document care in the electronic health record
- follow infection control, confidentiality, and institutional policies
- collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team.

Why this role
The schedule is 7:30 AM–8:00 PM, three 12-hour shifts per week, with every other weekend required. Current DC PCT certification and American Heart Association BLS certification are required.
