What you'll do

• Read menus and estimate food requirements
• order food or retrieve it from storage
• regulate cooking equipment
• measure and mix ingredients according to recipes
• bake, roast, broil, and steam foods
• season and test food
• carve and portion food and add sauces or garnishes
• cover and date unused perishables and return them to designated storage
• may supervise kitchen employees
• may prepare produce, butcher poultry or seafood, bake goods, or price menu items.
