CNC Machinist

Job overview

The CNC Machinist role is onsite in Mokena, IL. Compensation is not specified. SMS group designs, builds, and services industrial equipment for the steel industry, including through its North American technical services and machine shop network. This role sets up and operates CNC and manual lathes, mills, and accessories to machine rolls and other parts to quality requirements. Accurate machining, documentation, and safe shop practices support equipment service and production needs.

What you'll do

• Set up and operate CNC and manual lathes, mills, and accessories for metalworking operations on rolls and other parts
• meet quality assurance requirements
• complete SOP travelers and document daily activities
• interpret assembly and blueprint drawings
• follow safety precautions
• rig heavy machinery and equipment for overhead-crane use
• train employees as needed
• maintain a clean, organized work area.
