Software Engineering Intern

The Software Engineering Intern role is hybrid, with work in Protagonist’s Washington, DC office one to two days per week and remote opportunities. The listing location also identifies Northern Virginia, VA. Pay is $20 per hour or the applicable local minimum wage rate, whichever is higher. Protagonist combines analysis and its Narrative Analytics platform to study open-source media and provide strategic recommendations and communication strategies. The intern contributes production code to the Narrative Analytics platform across backend services, user-facing applications, data pipelines, and AI-powered features. The work supports the platform’s analysis of online conversations and helps the engineering team deliver tools used by analysts and clients.

What you'll do

• Build Python Django REST Framework API endpoints and React/TypeScript components
• write Metaflow data-pipeline steps to ingest documents, enrich them with LLMs, and index them in OpenSearch
• help build and evaluate LLM features
• gain hands-on experience with AWS services including S3, Bedrock, and EKS
• write tests, upgrade dependencies, fix issues, investigate production bugs, and collaborate with data scientists and analysts.
