WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor

The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor role is onsite across Jay, Randolph, and Blackford Counties, Indiana. Compensation is not specified. The counselor provides breastfeeding education and peer support to pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding clients within the clinic role’s scope of practice. The role promotes breastfeeding, helps clients address common challenges, refers clients to WIC staff or healthcare providers when needed, and supports the Indiana WIC program through classes, outreach, and documentation.

What you'll do

• Provide evidence-based breastfeeding support and education within the role’s scope
• counsel clients on basic breastfeeding education, anticipatory guidance, and common barriers
• help clients prevent and handle common breastfeeding problems
• refer clients to appropriate WIC staff and healthcare providers as needed
• lead breastfeeding classes
• document required information in INWIC MIS
• participate in staff meetings and in-service education
• develop relationships with staff and community partners.
