Assistant Genetic Technician

Job overview

The Assistant Genetic Technician position is onsite in Pierre, South Dakota, and pays $20–$25 per hour. It supports Christensen Farms’ swine genetic program, with a rotating training arrangement of three weeks alongside a Genetic Technician followed by one supervised week performing hands-on technician responsibilities. The role assists with animal evaluation, genetic testing, selection, and recordkeeping while supporting production activities. Its work contributes to accurate genetic program data, animal welfare, and biosecurity across the operation.

What you'll do

• Conduct live-animal genetic assessments and testing
• select gilts and boars based on stated criteria
• track animal flows and genetic lines
• maintain genetic and performance records
• coordinate pig movement and hauling logistics
• support production tasks, animal health, vaccination, and biosecurity
• communicate with supervisors and production teams.

Why this role
