The Software Engineer, Performance Tooling and Infrastructure role is onsite in Mountain View, CA. Compensation is $152,000–$228,000 per year in base pay; the position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits. The role supports Nuro’s autonomy platform by owning infrastructure used to validate software and hardware performance on robot compute systems. The engineer develops and evolves a benchmarking platform that helps teams assess performance changes before autonomy code reaches the road. By integrating physical test rigs, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD quality gates, and performance data analysis, the role supports reliable testing and release velocity across the autonomy stack.

What you'll do

• Develop and maintain job orchestration for autonomy benchmarks across physical bench-top systems and integrate benchmarks into CI/CD merge and release gates
• build monitoring, alerting, and self-healing automation
• develop performance data pipelines and dashboards with regression detection
• work with Data Science on experimentation methods
• guide OS and system configuration for bench hardware
• plan benchmarking fleet capacity and hardware allocation
• collaborate with Hardware Engineering, NPI, SRE, Perception, Behavior, and Data Science.
