Substation Engineer

The Substation Engineer role is an onsite position in Lombard, IL. The stated salary range is $85,000–$125,000 per year. The engineer works with client engineering representatives and other discipline engineers at Valdes Architecture & Engineering. The role develops and coordinates high-voltage substation engineering packages, including physical and electrical design, calculations, equipment specifications, and project drawings. It also supports timely, on-budget delivery while mentoring junior staff.

What you'll do

• Prepare substation design packages including one-line diagrams, site plans, electrical plans and sections, conduit and grounding details, and bills of materials
• coordinate drawings and design details with other disciplines
• perform AC and DC load calculations
• coordinate with clients
• support equipment selection, cable routing, utility interfaces, control building specifications, and construction sequencing
• supervise and mentor junior staff.
