Head Start Teacher Assistant

The Head Start Teacher Assistant role is onsite in Big Rock, TN. Pay is $17.09–$17.64 per hour. The position supports Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs serving children and families. The assistant helps operate the classroom day to day, supports children’s development and individualized learning, and works with families and community resources. The role also assumes the teacher’s responsibilities during the teacher’s absence.

What you'll do

• Assist with daily lesson and activity planning
• support child development assessments and individualized learning
• make home visits and communicate with parents
• help families access community resources
• collect required child health information
• assist with meals and classroom and center cleaning
• support parent meetings and trainings
• recruit children for Head Start and Early Head Start
• attend assigned meetings and training
• obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions
• follow program policies and applicable standards.

Why this role

High school diploma or GED required. A CDA credential or associate degree is preferred; must obtain a preschool-designated CDA within 12 months of hire. Previous preschool or experience with children ages 0–5 is required.
