The Part-Time Commercial Driver License Instructor role is onsite in Alpena, MI. Compensation starts at $644 per contact hour taught per semester; individualized behind-the-wheel instruction may include a $500-per-student stipend for approximately 12–15 hours of driving instruction, documentation, and evaluation. The instructor supports Alpena Community College’s Commercial Driver License training program. The role exists to teach and evaluate students across classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel coursework while maintaining training records and compliance with State of Michigan, FMCSA, and ELDT requirements. It also contributes to course preparation, student support, curriculum improvement, and upkeep of instructional vehicles and training areas.

What you'll do

• Teach lecture, laboratory, range, and behind-the-wheel portions of CDL courses
• deliver instruction in compliance with State of Michigan, FMCSA, and ELDT requirements
• prepare syllabi and instructional materials
• prepare classroom, range, and driving exercises
• evaluate student progress through examinations, quizzes, observations, skills assessments, and driving evaluations
• maintain training documentation and records
• liaise between the college and students
• implement assigned curriculum changes
• maintain instructional vehicles, laboratories, equipment, and training areas
• provide individual student assistance as necessary
• participate in curriculum development and program improvement
• maintain industry competency through professional development and regulatory updates.
