The Data Platform Engineer role is hybrid in Huntsville, AL. Compensation is $155,000–$205,000 per year. nou Systems supports defense, cybersecurity, test range modernization, biotechnology, and space control missions; this position supports the Missile Defense Agency’s Next Generation Environment program. The engineer provides technical oversight and integration guidance for a secure hybrid multi-cloud data environment. The role evaluates data platforms and architectures, advances data protection and access governance, and helps align systems with Department of Defense Zero Trust and cybersecurity requirements.

What you'll do

• Serve as a senior technical authority in architecture review boards
• assess database architectures, storage, applications, and data pipelines
• oversee data discovery, cataloging, classification, labeling, and tagging
• design and validate encryption, data loss prevention, data rights management, and dynamic masking
• develop attribute-based access control solutions
• oversee policy enforcement and decision point integration
• guide data virtualization, database security, and access governance across AWS, Azure, and on-premises environments
• ensure compliance with DoD, DISA, JSIG, and NIST requirements
• lead technical exchange meetings
• translate government leadership requirements into engineering solutions.

Why this role

Requires an active TS/SCI clearance, U.S. citizenship, active CISSP certification, and DoD 8140/8570 IAM Level III or IASAE Level II/III qualifications. Requires a STEM master’s degree with 12 years of relevant experience or bachelor’s degree with 20 years, including at least six years in enterprise data architecture and integration.
