The Accountant I role is onsite in Essex Junction, VT. The stated pay is $24.85–$31.25 per hour. The City of Essex Junction Finance team supports employees and departments across the organization through payroll, accounts payable, and financial recordkeeping. The role helps ensure accurate, timely payroll and accounts payable processing while maintaining financial records. It processes bi-weekly payroll and invoices, prepares payroll and tax records, reconciles accounts, supports audits and close activities, and assists other Finance Department staff as needed.

What you'll do

• Process bi-weekly payroll and review timesheets, forms, and reports for accuracy and compliance
• maintain employee payroll information and prepare direct deposit and banking records
• assist with municipal retirement program administration
• prepare payroll reports and leave accrual reports
• process invoices and reconcile City charge accounts
• produce and distribute bi-weekly accounts payable checks and positive pay files
• maintain payroll, vendor, accounts payable, and insurance records
• assist with reconciliations, accruals, audits, annual tax forms, and unclaimed property filings
• support other Finance Department staff.
