The Chief Scientist, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning role is onsite in Reston, VA; remote work with regular travel is also considered. The stated annual salary range is $225,000–$275,000. The role supports Project 137, Quantum Sky’s applied-research and intellectual-property team serving Department of War, intelligence community, and federal civilian missions. The role sets technical direction for AI and machine learning across Project 137’s four pillars. It develops shared models, production infrastructure, and mission evaluation methods while leading technical staff and helping deliver reliable, mission-ready capabilities and retained intellectual property.

What you'll do

• Define and communicate the AI/ML roadmap
• lead a core team of senior scientists and engineers and provide technical authority across pillars
• develop and optimize models for mission data, computer vision, and multi-agent systems
• build evaluation, MLOps, deployment, monitoring, and governance capabilities
• shape on-premises and edge compute
• recruit and develop talent
• represent the company with customers and at conferences
• support technical diligence on AI/ML acquisitions.
