Civil and Structural Engineering Intern — Summer 2027

Job overview

The Civil and Structural Engineering Intern role is onsite in Aurora, IL, with compensation of $18–$22 per hour. ESi’s Civil and Structural team evaluates, investigates, and restores structures and sites to improve safety, performance, and reliability. The intern supports engineering investigations through site inspections, documentation, analysis, drawings, and technical reporting. This work helps the team assess existing or damaged structures and communicate findings and potential repairs.

What you'll do

• Visit sites to inspect existing structures
• document dimensions, structural systems, conditions, and damage
• review project literature, drawings, reports, and other records
• prepare AutoCAD drawings for proposed repairs or retrofits
• use SAP2000 for structural analysis and MathCAD or Excel to organize calculations and data
• and prepare technical reports. The internship is expected to be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during business hours of 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
• co-op participants must take no more than two classes and work at least 32 hours per week. Travel for trips of three days in length is required.
