The Head Start Assistant Teacher role is onsite in Brockton, MA, with compensation of $19–$24 per hour and a Monday–Friday schedule. Self Help, Inc. is a nonprofit community action agency serving families and households across Southeastern Massachusetts through education and other support. The assistant teacher supports a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate classroom and helps promote school readiness for children enrolled in Head Start. Working with the Lead Teacher, the role assists with learning activities, child supervision, family engagement, and children’s developmental needs.

What you'll do

• Assist the Lead Teacher with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities
• maintain an inviting classroom
• support small groups and individual children
• supervise indoor and outdoor play
• assist with meals, personal care, and classroom preparation
• use positive guidance
• maintain attendance and observation records
• support individualized education plans and child assessments as needed
• build respectful relationships with families
• participate in meetings and training
• follow Head Start standards and licensing regulations.
